Tournament Format

You may print a copy of the rules here.

The Invitational has a four game guarantee, WEATHER PERMITTING, and will consist of three games of pool play followed by a single-elimination tournament. Teams will be seeded in brackets based on their finish in pool play.

Game Times

All pool and single-elimination bracket games are 75 minutes or seven innings. No new inning will begin after one hour and ten minutes. In pool play and single elimination play, the game shall be called if a team is ahead by 15 runs after three innings or eight runs after four innings. Championship games will be seven innings without a time limit.

Each teams must check in at the registration table 60 minutes prior to its first pool play game. Proof of insurance and ASA sanctioning must be shown at that time. Sanctioning will be available at sign-in.

This tournament is ASA sanctioned and all play will be governed by ASA fastpitch softball rules. All teams must be ASA sanctioned in order to participate. Umpires will explain the rules for each field to the head coach 15 minutes prior to the start of each game. Home teams will be decided by a coin toss at that time. Home teams will provide the official score book. Coaches must report final scores to tournament officials immediately at the end of each game. Teams may also bat 2 extra players during pool play.

All umpires are ASA certified.

International Tie Breaker (ITB)

The ITB WILL NOT be in force for pool games. Teams will be seeded based on the following point system: 3 points per win, 2 points per tie, 1 point per loss, runs allowed, run differential, coin toss. The ITB WILL BE in force for ALL single elimination games.

Team and individual awards will be presented to the first and second place teams in each age division.

Game balls will be provided by the tournament. All other equipment must be furnished by the teams and ASA approved for 2010 play. 10U, 12U and 14U players are NOT permitted to wear metal cleats. 16U and 18U ARE permitted to wear metal cleats.

There are no admission charges or parking fees at this tournament.

Protests will be considered but must be made immediately and accompanied by a $100 fee. This fee is refundable only if the protest is upheld. No protests will be considered after a game is completed per ASA rules.

Rain Delay and Cancellation Poicy

Should rain delay a game, the game will be resumed where stopped at a time determined by tournament officials. The only exception will be that any game called prior to the end of the first inning will be restarted. The phone number for rain delay information is XXX-XXX-XXXX. This line will be updated periodically during rain delays. Should the fields become unplayable, we will make every attempt to complete the tournament by modifying the format. Options include shortening game times, and changing to single elimination to play as much of the tournament as possible. Cancellation of the tournament will be a last resort. In the event we must cancel, we will refund pro-rated entry fees (based on 4 game guarantee) to each team, less any unrecoverable expenses incurred (concession stand expenses, advertising, T-shirts, trophies etc.) or offer reduced fees for next year’s tournament.
